## Mindbody or Trainerize: the short answer

Mindbody and Trainerize solve different halves of a personal training studio. **Mindbody** is a studio business system: booking, payments, reporting, marketing and a listing in the Mindbody consumer app. **Trainerize** (now ABC Trainerize) is a coaching-delivery app: programs, nutrition, habits and messaging on the client's phone, with branded-app options.

So the question is not which is better, but which problem hurts more. If it is the front desk (sessions, packages, payments), look at Mindbody. If it is what happens between sessions (programs, nutrition, accountability), look at Trainerize. If both hurt, read the section on running two apps first.

## What each platform is built to do

They overlap, but each has a clear center of gravity.

### Mindbody: the front desk

At the time of writing, Mindbody's pricing page lists three plans: Starter, Accelerate and Ultimate. Starter covers business management, integrated payments and point of sale, booking widgets for your website and a listing on the Mindbody app, where consumers find and book classes and appointments. Accelerate adds advanced reporting and room and resource management; Ultimate adds automated email and text marketing and a lead dashboard. A branded client app is an add-on on Accelerate and Ultimate. Training programs and nutrition plans are not what Mindbody is built for.

### Trainerize: the coaching layer

Trainerize is built around the program: a workout builder, workout logging, meal and macro tracking, habits, challenges and in-app messaging, plus Garmin, Fitbit and MyFitnessPal integrations on paid plans. Paid plans also include appointments, classes and session packs. Advanced nutrition, video coaching and Stripe payments are add-ons on the Grow and Pro plans, a custom branded app is an add-on from Pro, and all of them are included on the Studio plans.

## Mindbody vs Trainerize side by side

How the two compare on what a PT studio runs every week.

| What you need | Mindbody | Trainerize |
| ------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| Core job | Booking, payments, reporting, marketing | Programs, nutrition, habits, messaging |
| Scheduling and staff | Its strength: classes, appointments, team schedules, rooms | Appointments, classes, session packs; lighter than Mindbody |
| Programming and nutrition | Not a core feature | Its strength; advanced nutrition is an add-on below Studio |
| Payments | Integrated payments and point of sale | Stripe add-on on Grow and Pro, included on Studio |
| Client app | Mindbody app, or a branded app as an add-on from Accelerate | Trainerize app, or a custom branded app from Pro |
| New client discovery | Listing on the Mindbody consumer app | Trainerize.me profile |
| Pricing model | Tiered plans, quoted by sales; no free plan listed | Priced by client seats, plus add-ons; free for one client |

## Pricing: a sales quote vs client seats

You cannot compare them on one price tag: Mindbody prices by plan tier through sales, Trainerize by how many clients you coach.

At the time of writing, Mindbody's pricing page shows "Let's talk" instead of prices, so your number comes from a quote. Trainerize lists a free Basic plan for one client, a Grow plan for two, Pro tiers from 5 up to 200 client seats and Studio Plus from 500, with add-ons on top of the lower plans. Tier details are in our [Trainerize pricing guide](/blogs/trainerize-pricing). Either way, price it at your expected client count in a year and get any quote in writing, including contract length and processing fees.

## Which one fits your setup: three scenarios

The answer changes with how you train people.

### Solo PT, 1:1 in person

For one trainer seeing clients in person, Mindbody is usually more system than you need: you pay for front desk, marketing and marketplace tools built for a team. Trainerize is the closer fit, because its paid plans cover appointments and session packs next to the programs clients follow between sessions. Mindbody can still pay off if new clients find you through the Mindbody app.

### PT studio with staff trainers

Mindbody handles the studio side well: trainer schedules, session packages and payments at the desk and online. It does not give your trainers a place to build programs and follow clients between sessions, so they fall back on spreadsheets, PDFs or a coaching app. Trainerize handles that coaching across a team, but its scheduling and payments are lighter than a studio system.

### Hybrid: in person plus online

If part of your revenue comes from online programs, Trainerize has the edge, since remote coaching is what it was built for. Mindbody still covers in-person booking and payments, which is how many hybrid studios end up with both.

## Why many studios end up paying for both

Because each covers half of the job, a studio that wants a strong front desk and real coaching often runs Mindbody for booking and payments and Trainerize for programs. It works, but the cost is easy to miss.

* **Two subscriptions**, each with its own tiers or add-ons.
* **Two apps on every client's phone**: one to book and pay, one to train and log.
* **Two client lists** to keep in sync when someone joins, pauses or leaves.
* **Trainers switching tools**: the schedule in one place, the program in another.

At the time of writing, Trainerize's pricing page lists a Mindbody integration on its larger studio plans, so check exactly what it syncs before you build your workflow on it. For the general bundle-versus-stack trade-off, see our guide to [all-in-one gym software](/blogs/all-in-one-gym-software).

## A third option: booking and coaching in one app

If you would otherwise run both, one platform that combines booking and coaching removes the second app. Trainera's gym plans are one example.

* **Scheduling.** Classes, small groups, open gym and PT in one planner across all your trainers, with recurring series, capacity and rosters. Members see the next two weeks and book from their phone.
* **Trainers and staff.** Each trainer gets their own login under the gym, with their members, plans and messages. Staff are invited by email with page-level permissions.
* **Coaching in the member app.** Training and nutrition plans sit in the same app as bookings. AI drafts come from 1,800+ exercises and 1,100+ recipes, trainers approve them, and you switch AI on per package.
* **Packages and payments.** Your own price, currency, billing cycle, access hours and entry limits. Card sales go through your own Stripe account at a 0% platform fee; cash is recorded at the desk.

Core is $149 and White Label $299 a month in the US, with unlimited members, no per-member fee and no setup fee. Core starts with a 7-day trial; White Label adds your own iOS and Android app. Members, packages, expiry dates, trainers and plans are migrated for free. Other markets are on the [pricing page](/pricing).

The trade-offs: Trainera has no consumer marketplace for gyms (its marketplace lists trainers, not studios), so if the Mindbody app brings you clients, you lose that channel. Staff payroll and commission tracking are not among its listed features. Head-to-head detail: [Trainera vs Mindbody](/blogs/trainera-vs-mindbody-comparison) and [Trainera vs Trainerize](/blogs/trainera-vs-trainerize-comparison).

No staff at all? The gym plan is more than you need. Trainer plans are priced per plan, never per client: free for up to 3 clients, then Starter $19.99, Pro $49.99 and Business $99 a month in the US. See the [platform for personal trainers](/platform).

## Choose Mindbody if, choose Trainerize if

Pick Mindbody for the front desk and Trainerize for the coaching; this checklist settles the edge cases.

**Choose Mindbody if:**

* You sell many classes or group sessions and need a strong front desk.
* New clients find you through the Mindbody app, or you want that listing.
* You want marketing automation, room booking and point of sale in one system.

**Choose Trainerize if:**

* Your value is the program and the accountability between sessions.
* You coach online or hybrid, or plan to.
* You want to start small and pay by the number of clients you coach.
* Appointments and session packs cover your booking needs.

**Look at a combined platform if** you would otherwise pay for both and ask every client to install two apps.

## FAQ

### Is Mindbody or Trainerize better for a personal training studio?

It depends on which half of the studio you need to fix. Mindbody is the stronger studio business system, with booking, payments, reporting, marketing and a listing in the Mindbody consumer app. Trainerize is the stronger coaching app, with programs, nutrition, habits and messaging. A studio with staff trainers that needs both often runs the two side by side, or picks one platform that combines booking and coaching.

### Is Mindbody worth it for a solo personal trainer?

Usually not for a solo trainer doing 1:1 sessions. Mindbody is built for studios that need a front desk, class booking, marketing and point of sale, and its plans are quoted by sales rather than listed. A solo trainer mostly needs a calendar, payments and a way to deliver programs. Mindbody can still pay off if new clients find you through the Mindbody app or you run many group classes.

### How are Mindbody and Trainerize priced?

On different units. At the time of writing, Mindbody lists its Starter, Accelerate and Ultimate plans without a public price, so the number comes from a sales quote. Trainerize prices by the number of client seats, from a free plan for one client up to studio plans for hundreds, with advanced nutrition, video coaching and Stripe payments as add-ons on its lower plans. Compare both at the size you expect in a year.

### Can I use Mindbody and Trainerize together?

Yes, and many studios do: Mindbody for booking and payments, Trainerize for programs and coaching between sessions. At the time of writing, Trainerize's pricing page lists a Mindbody integration on its larger studio plans, so check exactly what it syncs. Even when connected, you pay two subscriptions, clients use two apps and trainers switch between tools, so count that cost before you commit.

### Is there one app that does studio booking and coaching together?

Yes, some platforms combine both. Trainera's gym plans, for example, put classes, small groups and PT across all your trainers in one planner and deliver training and nutrition plans in the same member app. Core is $149 and White Label $299 a month in the US, with unlimited members and no per-member fee. It has no consumer marketplace for gyms, so it will not replace the Mindbody app as a source of new clients.
